The Shefford Duck Race celebrates its 20th anniversary this Sunday.

Back by popular demand, the annual fixture of the town calendar runs from 12 noon until 4pm and is sure to provide fun for the whole family.

In addition to the ducks racing down the River Flit, there will be food and drinks provided by hosts the Bangkok Lounge, stalls, a bouncy castle and a raffle – with money raised going to Acorn Pre-School and the Mighty Oaks school club.

Acorn Pre-School is the only community pre-school in Shefford and, as a charity, it relies heavily on funds raised at events such as Shefford Duck Race.

Jacqui Lewis, chairwoman and trustee of Acorn Pre-School and the Mighty Oaks, said: “Duck race fever is in full swing.

“We are preparing for our 20th anniversary duck race to be held on Sunday in the grounds of the Bangkok Lounge in Bedford Road.

“The event is always a fantastic day and is supported incredibly well by the community of Shefford.

“We are once again looking forward to working with the Bangkok Lounge to make this year’s event better than ever.”

Bangkok Lounge owner and general manager Motin Miah is excited to be hosting the race once more.

“We’re delighted to host the event again this year, especially as we celebrate the 20th anniversary of the duck race,” he said.

“We pride ourselves on working closely with the community and love to give something back. It’s a hugely enjoyable day for all the family and we encourage local residents to join us.”

If you can’t get enough of duck racing, there’s another quacking event the following weekend.

Arlesey hosts its annual duck race on Sunday, July 8, in Glebe Meadow Nature Reserve.

Ducks will splash into the River Purwell at 2.30pm. Games, a barbecue and refreshments will also be on offer.

Tickets are available for £1 – with a first prize of £50, followed by £30 for second place and £10 for third.

All proceeds from the event will go to the town’s Methodist church, St Peter’s Church and Acorn.
