Set to open later this month, behind the scenes work has been under way at Stevenage's newest chicken restaurant in Bragbury End.

Peckers, which also operates an eatery and delivery service in Hitchin, is set to open in Kenilworth Close on Wednesday, April 24.

Despite similar themes to Peckers' Hitchin restaurant, the Stevenage branch is larger, features a more relaxed seating area and will serve alcohol.

Graffitied chickens adorn the walls of the restaurant with touchscreen order units, sofas and stools seen throughout.

Rishi Chandarana, who co-owns the brand with his brother Sanjay, said: "We're super excited!

"There's been a two-week delay, just waiting for the car park to be finished. However, the anticipation is building and we're super excited to serve Stevenage and its surrounding areas.

"Effectively, we wanted this one to have more of a Nando's vibe so its not too boozy but we've included a drinks licence so customers can have a few drinks with their meal.

"It's slightly bigger than the Hitchin site, there's far more covers in here and its a separate area.

"Hitchin, I would describe as our express takeaway site. Stevenage is just ever so slightly bigger, so people can come in and enjoy themselves for an hour or so.

"You can still tell its Peckers, its still very much part of the brand, but we see it as a restaurant here as well as the takeaway and delivery side."

Asked about the interest that the new branch has garnered from residents, Rishi continued: "It's crazy, considering how small the local area is.

"The amount of people that are coming in that are really excited that its coming to their doorstep.

"On top of that, it brings a buzz to a different side of Stevenage. It's not where you would anticipate something like Peckers to be situated but for us it's perfect.

"We like being part of a local community. It's a different side of Stevenage as well, slightly closer to Hertford.

"If a site does come up in Stevenage Old Town it would be great to position ourselves on that side of Stevenage as well.

"The great thing is, having a restaurant area, we can see ourselves being planted within town centres in the future."
