The Stevenage FC Foundation hopes to raise £20,000 to make its ‘StreetStadia’ mobile, as part of a ‘Giving Day’ ahead of the game against Bolton.

The 36-hour fundraising event will begin on Thursday, 28 March and include the Good Friday fixture, with organisers touting it as the first such event in English Football League history.

The StreetStadia was recently gifted to the foundation and enables them to take their sessions on the road around Hertfordshire.

The foundation is hoping to have it on the move later this year, but donations are needed to purchase a moving vehicle for it.

Joe Goude, chief executive of the Foundation, said: “It is becoming more and more obvious that not everyone in our community is able to access the opportunities that we have to offer.

"Most of the time, we find that this is either down to them not knowing that the opportunity exists, or that it takes place once a week at a venue the other side of town or even in a different part of Hertfordshire."

The foundation currently provides 185 weekly sessions and reaches 6,000 people a year, but getting the sessions on the move would enable them to reach a wider audience.

The fundraiser begins at 9am on Thursday and will run until 9pm on Good Friday.

The club have lent their support to the appeal with first team players taking on challenges as part of the fundraiser and both manager Steve Evans and chairman Phil Wallace giving their backing.

In addition, £500 from every goal scored during the Bolton game will be donated, as part of a partnership with Austin’s Funeral Directors.

Mr Goude added: “As a charity, we’ve never really been one for fundraising, often sourcing a lot of the money we need to offer what we can to the local community through grant funding bids, so this is a big challenge for us, and we’re excited to see what we can achieve”.

The foundation hopes for the StreetStadia to make its debut on Sunday, June 9, at Stevenage Day.
