A main road in Hitchin was closed for almost an hour this morning after a crash involving a car and a motorbike.

The crash happened at about 8.30am in Cambridge Road, near The Anchor pub, and involved a Ford Fiesta and a Yamaha motorbike.

The road, the main route out of Hitchin towards Letchworth and Stotfold, was left blocked.

Emergency services closed the road between St Michael’s Road and Willian Road to allow work at the scene, and reopened it at about 9.20am.

Police said recovery was being arranged for the motorbike.

An ambulance service spokeswoman said this afternoon that paramedics had treated a man thought to be in his 40s at the scene before taking him to Stevenage’s Lister Hospital.
