A man who was reported missing, causing concern to police and friends, has been found safe and well.

Stephen Dickens, 59, of Oxford Road, Colchester, was reported missing after last being seen by a neighbour around 7.30pm on Thursday.

Officers say he had no access to a vehicle or a mobile phone and has minimal access to any money.

With this in mind, friends and relatives are joining Essex Police in appealing to the residents and motorists of Colchester to be on the look out for him.

Shortly after 7am today, he was found by police by the side of the A12 near Marks Tey. He was detained under the Mental Health Act and officers took him to the Linden Centre in Chelmsford.

A spokesman for the force said: “Essex Police would like to thank those members of the media who publicised Stephen’s disappearance.”
