Â
AFRICAN dancers and singers entertained visitors at the launch of One Book for Stevenage.
The annual reading project, which is now in its fourth year and run by Stevenage Borough Council to encourage as many people as possible to delve into a book, was launched at North Hertfordshire College on Friday.
There was a choir and African dancers. Visitors also had the chance to listen to readings from this year's book called The No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency by Alexander McCall Smith and take part in a quiz while drinking South African wine.
Ken Follett, Stevenage-based best-selling novelist and supporter of the annual project, who was at the launch said: "I think this year’s choice will be the most popular yet. It's been a massive bestseller all over the world. For those who want more, there are lots of books in the series. Enjoy it, everyone!"
Other events that were held across town to celebrate the launch included a book display at Stevenage Central Library and a window display at Waterstones in the town centre.
Future celebratory events include an art exhibition called Botswana Art: The World of No.1 Ladies' Detective Agency at Springfield House from June 6-13 and a summer reading challenge in August.
