Finance

Our Finance Department supports the Managing Director and the Senior Management Team by providing timely and accurate information to aid strategic and operational decision-making.  The accounts functions of Credit Control, Payroll and Accounts Payable are performed by the central Accounting Services team in Norwich. This means the local team can concentrate on producing weekly profit forecasts, monthly management accounts and any other relevant financial/statistical information the business requires.  Another important function of the Finance team is to produce the detailed annual budget, and quarterly re-forecasts

Profile of Russell Aylott - Management Accountant

How long have you been with the Archant?

I started here in early October 2006 so fast approaching a year now.

What attracted you to join?

I was attracted initially to the role as it was very much what I had been searching for. I had performed a similar role during my university placement year and wanted to get back into what I enjoyed doing. Whilst researching the company I felt like it was the sort of place I could fit in and this has definitely been the case.

What is like to work here?

I like the atmosphere and the teamwork here at Archant. My days seem to go quickly, too quickly sometimes! It gets very busy in the finance department but I enjoy it. It's a very friendly office and everyone seems to get along well.

How would you describe a typical day?

There is never a typical day in finance. There is always a variety of tasks and enquiries to deal with. We do have several recurring jobs to complete and are always kept busy, especially when preparing the month-end reports. There is always analysis to be done!

What is the best part about your job?

The best part has to be the variety. I get to deal with all sorts of different people from all over the organisation and outside it. Whether it be preparing a report or an invoice, or just an enquiry over the phone, the daily contact is something I enjoy. It is always nice to resolve a query and make a difference in the decision-making process.

What is the most challenging part of your job?

There are many challenges in this role. One of the most difficult things is producing the monthly accounts on time! There can be a lot of pressure, especially being in such a small department but we always manage to get things done. I like to be challenged in my work and you really feel like you've achieved something when it's completed.
