Letchworth Ladies I 3
Broxbourne Ladies 0
AFTER last week's disappointing result against Waltham Forest, a second half hat-trick from Charlie Gibson, all from penalty corners, saw Letchworth Ladies to a 3-0 East League victory over local rivals Broxbourne.
Letchworth started brightly and had the better of the first half without finding the net. Letchworth continued to press after the break and deservedly took the lead but not before 'keeper Rachel Williams had been forced into making some good saves. Letchworth's opener came after 50 minutes when Gibson mishit a penalty corner strike for the ball to bounce into the goal.
But following a tense 15 minutes in which both sides threatened, Gibson struck again to seal the result and a brilliantly hit shot in the closing minutes provided the icing on the cake.
Welwyn Garden City IV 1
Letchworth Ladies IV 1
FOR the second week running, Letchworth Ladies IV had to play in torrential rain.
WGC had an early strike disallowed but some ineffective Letchworth defensive play gave possession to the home team, who then took advantage to slot the ball neatly into the Letchworth goal.
However, in the second half and with a couple of positional changes, the visitors rallied and began to counter attack more purposefully.
With Sarah Stevens, Laura Balcombe and Liz Small taking more control of the midfield, the added pressure on the Welwyn goal began to tell.
It was not surprising that the equaliser eventually came, when Alison Adams lifted the ball over the advancing Welwyn 'keeper to earn her team a much deserved share of the points.
