Boro boss Graham Westley paid tribute to his side for grinding out three more points against Chester City on Tuesday evening.
Goals from Yemi Odubade and Mark Roberts ensured Boro kept up the pressure on leaders Oxford United despite the difficult conditions and the defensive tactics employed by City.
Westley promised that his side would learn to deal with sides adopting a negative approach at The Lamex Stadium and the patience display by his squad certainly bodes well for the rest of the campaign.
"I've said it after so many games here. Sides like Grays and Altrincham came here and managed to get something and we probably didn't show enough patience," Westley told The Comet.
"We dealt with those issues and planned through them on the training ground. I didn't think we were brilliant tonight but I did think we had enough variety to our game to cause them problems.
"They allowed us a lot of room in defensive areas but no real room to play in.
"We were playing the short game when really in the first half we needed to get the long game going.
"They made it very difficult for us but I thought over the 90 minutes we did enough to win the game."
Westley was also delighted to see the hours of set play drills in training finally bear fruit as Odubade and Roberts cashed in.
"It's about time we got something from a set play. In honesty we haven't really done ourselves justice in that department.
"I think we've got the second highest corner count in the league and we have got the lowest goals scored count from them.
"But I'm really pleased for both goalscorers. Yemi toils endlessly for the team. He works so hard down the channels, trying to get in behind and it's great to see him get a reward.
"It's also good to see your skipper get one. He works so hard at one end and he deserve his goal.
