A MOTORCYCLIST is facing prosecution after following an ambulance on a blue light run.

The 21-year-old man from Sandy followed the ambulance as it made its way on the A603 from Bedford to Sandy to deal with a patient with a heart problem.

According to police, the motorcyclist stuck close behind the ambulance as it raced along, often getting so near that the ambulance driver could no longer see him.

Pc Paul Willis, who eventually stopped the motorcyclist, said that the driver's actions were dangerous as cars stopping to let the ambulance pass may not have expected the bike to be behind, which could have led to an accident.

Pc Willis said that the ambulance was forced to slow down in order to prevent a crash.

He added: "It was basically slowing down which was stopping it getting to the patient with a heart problem as quickly as it could have done."

The biker was apprehended after the ambulance flashed down Pc Willis as he made his way along the A603 in the opposite direction.

He is now likely to be charged with driving without due care and attention and causing danger to other road users.

Police are still appealing for witness to the incident in order to help the conviction.

Pc Willis said: "Obviously there was a lot of traffic on the road at the time, so someone must have seen something."

The incident happened at around 4.30pm on October 11.
