Party Policies: North Herts District Council Elections 2008
The Liberal Democrats
The elections on May 1 give people in North Herts a real chance to choose real change in their communities.
The Conservatives, who have run the council since 1999, have saddled us with a high cost council that has failed to protect our environment, dragged its feet on recycling and threatened community facilities such as Hitchin and Baldock town halls.
This year’s council tax rise was the biggest in Herts, yet they have still cut services like dial-a-ride for the elderly and disabled.
Liberal Democrat priorities are:
- Value for money – cut costs and council tax rises, not services for the young and old.
- Action to limit the impact of Green Belt development across the district.
- An early start to proper plastic recycling.
