Computer [co] Who do you think the next manager will be?
Reply Quote

There are lots of rumours flying around Broadhall Way at the moment over who the next manager is going to be.

Who do you think will be the next manager?

Will it be Westley?

I do not wish to see Westley back!!

Anyone that plays football the right way, will do. Liam Daish, Andy Ford or Chris Wilder.

Not GW we are a progressive club, PW decided before he (gw)was not right for the Boro, so why go backwards, lets move forward with a manager that plays fluent entertaining football with respect for all involved in our club.

Up the Boro !!

Well I don't so much know who I think will be ouir next manager, but I have a couple of ideas about who I might like it to be.

There is a rumour already going around that we've approached Dino at Northwich, but I certainly don't know if there is any foundation of truth to that.

Newly ex-Lewes manager Steve King is quite a popular name around here, I mean to be honest based on the fact that we've got more time now to appoint a manager than we did with Taylor, for Phil Wallace to say that he will be announcing it before this weekend is quite bold...but it means that it's probably going to be someone who is not currently attached to a club...like King.

I would like to see someone who's experienced in the Conference and knows this level of football very well, enough to know how to get us promoted.

I would like to see Dino come back, maybe as manager or possibly as a coach with someone else as the #1.

Well quite honestly I wouldn't have either of them back at the club. For me, they both left the club in ways that left us with more repairing/rebuilding to do than we could probably have coped with at the respective times. You are right we are a 'progressive' sort of club, but I think most clubs at our level are these days because it's the only real way to survive. Some people still know the Conference as a bit of 'tin pot' league, but although I agree in principle I think there's much more to life and football at our level nowadays.

In that respect I think we don't want to have our minds stuck in yester-year, we do need to look onwards to the aim and prospect of being a Football League club probably ideally within the next five years MAXIMUM.

Westley and Stimson were both great managers, perhaps still are or would be, and they did well for this club back in their times but I think in order to move on and push for promotion we need someone who is new to the club but NOT NEW TO THE LEAGUE. As I said before we really need someone with plenty of experience at this level of football, who knows the Conference well enough and who knows how to play the sort of football that will get us promoted.

There are a few managers out there who could do it. I mean as this is a rather speculative topic, I'm not going to hold back in saying that someone like Darren Ferguson at Peterborough Utd would be ideal for us. He's had great success in the lower tiers of English football, and he's built a winning, successful title-challenging side by gradually bringing in key players from the right places...even a few ex-non-leaguers have played for him in recent times. George Boyd is living proof of the sort of talent we've been nurturing at Boro in the last few years, so with that in mind we now need to look for a manager who can mould that talent into a team that works hard, plays FOR EACH OTHER and will push for the league title.

I think we don't set the bar quite high enough really, the 'play-offs will do' mentality of recent managers is ok in moderation but it's too prone to backfire on us. I think our next manager needs to look at it with every intention of going for top-spot and winning the title...then if afterwards we only end up falling into the play-offs then that'll be better than struggling and fighting to even get in there in the first place, such was this season and last.

I don't know who the next manager will be but I know that it shouldn't be Graham Westley.

He got us closer to promotion than any previous manager since Paul Fairclough but the atmosphere he created was very bad for the club. He along with the antics of the people he shared his time with at the club, namely Lionel Perez and Dino Maamria did a lot to damage the reputation of SBFC. Whether his reputation in football is deserved or not, his re-appointment can only be step backwards for the club.

I refuse to believe there aren't better managers available and if it's his financial contribution the club is after, then there will be other benefactors who bring much less baggage than GW.

A lot of you reading this will know me well. I have been involved with Stevenage Town FC, Stevenage Athletic FC, and Stevenage Borough. I have had many, many years experience in football, - at ALL levels.
In my time, I have met many great and famous individuals. I have also met many more unsung heroes. I feel therefore, that I am qualified to express my feelings, - especially when it concerns football, - and the club that I love.
The rumour about Graham Westley coming back to Stevenage is speculation. However, I will say this about the man. He is a man of his word and of principle. He may well have upset a number of Stevenage supporters by the manner of his authority, but believe me when I tell you that (with the exception of Mark Stimson) Graham Westley is, in my opinion, the finest manager that we have had.
Yes, I accept that Paul Fairclough was able to achieve more, but in these modern times, it is my volition that Westley would be a good candidate to move the club forward.
IF Graham Westley comes back to Stevenage Borough (and it is IF at the moment), then he can certainly count on my support.

Jim

As much as I am not too keen on the idea of GW coming back with his own "interesting" choices in backroom staff, if Phil does as he hinted and appoint the rest of the managerial team himself this could work out well for Boro. You can say what you like about GW and his first time in charge here and I'm sure I would agree with you. He did seem to go out of his way to p*ss off most fans, and the football we played under him was truely dreadful, but Phil has promised that he will not allow us to go down that route again and I believe he wants what is best for the club.

Whatever the decision I will be behind him, and the club - including the manager - completely

Well done Jim and Ivan - let's see a bit of maturity being shown from a few others, too, eh?

Whatever you think of Phil Wallace and Graham Westley, they are far from being stupid men and must be expecting a significant backlash from a number of passionate and vociferous Boro supporters based on the previous (IMO, mixed) Westley experience.

GW will clearly have to perform exceptionally in all aspects of his job in order to be able to turn Boro's fortunes around and earn the respect of the supporters. I, frankly, am sceptical but hope for the best, and if he does, he will have earned my admiration. At least let's give GW a chance.........

OK, lets all keep open minds on this soap opera. If GW 's reputation is solid amongst the football freternity then we should see the finest available players at BHW next season. I would imagine the likes of Ronnie and Morro would not have signed  new contracts if they were not happy with GW becoming their new manager. Therefore, GW must have the team and PW behind him - lets see what unravalls. Wink <img src=" src="/CS/emoticons/emotion-5.gif">
