LOOKING for BARRETT-WISEMAN
I will be visiting the Newmarket-Soham area in mid - April for a few days for the first time, researching family history. Looking forward to hearing from any person connected to the above families . My father was Alex Barrett born in Newmarket, in 1888. Alex moved to Canada in the early 1900’s with several siblings, finally settling in Ottawa & Toronto. My grandfather was Robert Barrett, cabinetmaker from Newmarket. Robert married Mary Wiseman from Soham in 1874 at the parish church, All Saints, Newmarket
Robert’s father was William Barrett from Thetford, Norwich, who also was a cabinetmarker. William married Liza Draper from Thetford, in 1821.
My grandmother Mary Wiseman’s father was Henry Wiseman and his wife Mary Wiseman (Mary Taylor) was from Wicken. Henry’s occupation was that of thatcher. Henry & Mary had a very large family, and lived first in Soham, later in Newmarket.
